Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Opens The Year At The King Invitational

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team started its 2021-22 season over the weekend at the King University Early Season Invitational. The Wasps finished 12th out of 12 competing teams.

Top Finishes
- Freshman Paige Gelenski (Boca Raton, Fla.) was ninth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:22.88. She also turned in times of 5:00.40 to take 11th in the 400-yard individual medley, 5:30.36 (11th) in the 500-yard freestyle and 1:03.86 in the 100-yard butterfly, good for 17th.
- Senior Cat Sweigart (Bridgewater, Va.) was 13th in the 200-yard breaststroke, stopping the watches in 2:41.39 and was 15th in the 100-breast at 1:14.00. Freshman Rachel Ritter (Gibsonville, N.C.) posted a 25th-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:27.45.
- Freshman Tilly Craddock (Christiansburg, Va.) was 20th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.83) and posted times of :59.27 in the 100-free and :27.72 in the 50-free.
- Freshman Peyton Helscher (Simi Valley, Calif.) took 14th in the 1,650-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 19:40.08 and was 24th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:29.60.
- The Wasps' 200-yard freestyle relay of freshman Danyelle Dukes (Center Point, Ala.), Gelenski, Craddock and Sweigart posted a 1:48.89 to take 16th while the 400-yard and 200-yard medley relays were 17th and 18th, respectively. The 400-yard freestyle relay capped the meet with a 20th-place finish.

- Emory & Henry will open the home portion of its season next Saturday when it hosts Randolph College and Warren Wilson College at 1:00 p.m.
