Carson-Newman Swimming Defeats Emory & Henry Friday Evening

EMORY, Va. – The Carson-Newman University Men's & Women's Swimming Teams picked up a pair of victories as the women won 10 of 11 events and the men won all 11 events against Emory & Henry College Friday evening. This meet made history, as it was the first South Atlantic Conference swimming competition in the history of the storied conference.

The Men
- Freshman Max Betzer (Cumming, Ga.) was runner-up in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 9:11.66 and also added a fourth in the 400 freestyle with a 4:27.78.
- Freshman Owen Seymour (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) finished second in the 50-meter freestyle, posting a time of :24.98 and took fourth in the 100-meter backstroke as he recorded a 1:05.61.
- Sophomore Corey Kidd (Stockbridge, Ga.) took a pair of third-place finishes in the 200-meter individual medley and 100-meter freestyle with times of 2:22.05 and :58.93 respectively.

The Women
- Freshman Mackenzie Barnett (Monroe Township, N.J.) was victorious in the 200-meter freestyle and set a new program record with a time of 2:13.38. Barnett also finished third in the 100-meter freestyle, posting a 1:01.63.
- Sophomore Hope Christensen (Moroni, Utah) took second place in the 50-meter freestyle with a :28.33 while classmate Peyton Helscher (Simi Valley, Calif.) finished third in the 800-meter freestyle as she posted a time of 10:49.62.
- Sophomore Paige Gelenski (Boca Raton, Fla.) finished in third place in the 200-meter individual medley, posting a time of 2:39.39 and freshman Mick Sorochen (Monmouth Junction, N.J.) took second in the 100-meter butterfly with a 1:09.09. 

Up Next
- Emory & Henry returns to action next Saturday when they travel to South Atlantic Conference foe Catawba College. The meet is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
