Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Downs Virginia Wesleyan, 132-74, Saturday On The Road

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Men's & Women's Swimming Teams earned their first dual-meet victories of the year on Saturday, topping former Old Dominion Athletic Conference-rival Virginia Wesleyan University on the road.

The women's team picked up a 132-74 win, claiming first place in 10 races. The men's team got their win by a 102.5-84.5 score with six event victories.

The Men
- Senior Corey Kidd (Stockbridge, Ga.) won the 50-yard freestyle, swimming a 21.38 seconds and was also first in the 100-yard butterfly at :52.68.
- Junior Caleb Patton (Marion, Va.) touched the wall first in the 1,000-yard freestyle at 10:34.60 and was second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.99). Sophomore Brady Jones (Bluefield, Va.) swam a :52.38 to win the 100-yard freestyle and stopped the watches in 23.06 seconds in the 50-free to place second.
- Junior Jordan Krafft (Waxhaw, N.C.) was second in both the 1,000-free (11:34.82) and the 500-free (5:30.38) and placed third in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:02.01.
- Freshman Ethan Veselik (Marion, Va.) was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:05.49 and placed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a swim of 2:04.92.
- Sophomore Ryan Teuton (Chattanooga, Tenn.) went a 1:04.56 in the 100-yard breaststroke to place second as freshman Benson Huntley, Jr. (Lakeland, Fla.) was third in the 500-free at 5:39.18 and tied for third in the 100-free (:54.04).
- The Wasps claimed both relays. Teuton, Patton, Kidd and Jones swam a 1:40.68 in the 200-yard medley relay to get things started. The same group switched their order for the 200-yard freestyle relay, finishing in 1:30.92.

The Women
- Junior Samantha Pepevnik (Porsgrunn, NORWAY) picked up a trio of individual victories, touching first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:14.67), the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.48) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.71).
- Senior Paige Gelenski (Boca Raton, Fla.) captured first in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:03.98 and the 100-yard butterfly with a swim of 1:01.42 while junior Mackenzie Barnett (Monroe Township, N.J.) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:53.24 and the 100-free in 56.00 seconds.
- Senior Hope Christensen (Moroni, Utah) was first in the 50-yard freestyle, stopping the watches in 24.68 seconds and was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.86).
- Senior Peyton Helscher (Simi Valley, Calif.) grabbed the win in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:46.73 and was second in the 200-free with a time of 2:08.74.
- Freshman Aida Matute Moreno (Viladecans, SPAIN) posted a pair of third-place finishes in the 100-butterfly (1:06.99) and the 100-back (1:03.47).
- Senior Rachel Ritter (Gibsonville, N.C.) was third in the 100-breast at 1:12.48 while junior Maggie Robinson (Canton, Ga.) was third in the 200-free (2:09.31) and sophomore Jaxon Thurman (Ooltewah, Tenn.) was third in the 1,000 (12:12.81).
- E&H won the 200-yard medley relay as Pepevnik, Ritter, Gelenski and Christensen went a 1:54.17. The group of Christensen, Helscher, Robinson and Barnett touched the wall second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:44.71).

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will face King (Tenn.) University and Lees-McRae College in a double dual next Saturday at Tennessee High School.
