Emory & Henry Women's Tennis Defeats Concord, 5-4, To Open Fall Season

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team (1-0) picked up a victory in their first match of the year Wednesday defeating Concord University, 5-4, at home. The Wasps took wins at number one and number five singles and number one doubles as well as winning number six singles and number three doubles by default against the NCAA Division II school.

Sophomore Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) combined with freshman Sarah Vishnev (Mooresville, N.C.) to take an 8-6 victory in the top singles flight. Wingate also earned a 6-3, 6-2 win in number one doubles.

Freshman Sheyenne Cleveland (Rural Retreat, Va.) also had a 6-0, 6-1 conquest at the number five singles position.

Emory & Henry will next take the court on Tuesday, September 27 when the Wasps travel to Maryville, Tenn., to take on the Scots of Maryville College. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
