Lynchburg Women’s Tennis Slips Past Emory & Henry, 5-4, Saturday Afternoon

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Lynchburg College Women's Tennis Team (5-10, 3-7 ODAC) claimed a 5-4 win over Emory & Henry College (6-13, 2-8 ODAC) in a battle over which team would earn the final seed in the 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon.

Lynchburg got out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play but the E&H pair of sophomore Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) and freshman Sarah Vishnev (Mooresville, N.C.) got an 8-5 win at the first doubles flight.

In the singles portion of the match, Wingate won at number one (6-2, 6-4) while freshman Sheyenne Cleveland (Rural Retreat, Va.) claimed a three-set victory (3-6, 6-0, 7-5) in the fourth flight, coming back from down a set to win the match. Sophomore Casey Blackburn (Richmond, Va.) won (6-3, 6-3) as well for the Wasps at number five singles.

The Wasps will return the bulk of their lineup next season and will have a solid recruiting class to rely upon as they seek to move up in the conference standings in the 2012-13 ODAC season.
