Maryville Women's Tennis Slips Past Emory & Henry, 5-4, Tuesday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. - The Maryville (Tenn.) College Women's Tennis Team (1-0) picked up a 5-4 victory over Emory & Henry College Tuesday afternoon at home. The Wasps conclude their fall season with a 1-1 record.

The Scots got out to a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion of the match. E&H's number one pair of junior Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) and freshman Taylor Evans (Gate City, Va.) edged out their competition, 8-6.

In the singles portion of the contest, Emory & Henry picked up wins at the first three flights. Wingate got a (7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (6)) win at No. 1 singles, while Evans won (6-3, 6-2) in the second matchup.

Freshman Meredith Yeary (Knoxville, Tenn.) picked up a (7-5, 6-0) victory at the third singles flight.

The Wasps will next take the court on February 27, 2013 when they travel to Staunton, Va. to face the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin College.
