Assumption Women’s Tennis Slips Past Emory & Henry, 5-4, Wednesday Afternoon

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Assumption College Women's Tennis Team was able to bounce back from being down 2-1 after doubles play to defeat Emory & Henry College (3-4) Wednesday afternoon at the Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort.

E&H took a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion of the match as junior Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) and freshman Taylor Evans (Gate City, Va.) picked up an 8-6 win at the top flight. Sophomore Sheyenne Cleveland (Rural Retreat, Va.) and junior Casey Blackburn (Richmond, Va.) won by the same 8-6 score at number three doubles.

In singles play, Evans continued her unbeaten streak, winning 6-1, 6-1 at number two. Cleveland was victorious by the same score at the sixth spot.

E&H had several opportunities to win as they fell 9-8 at number two doubles and saw two singles matches go to three sets after easily winning the first frames.

The Wasps will conclude their slate of games for the week tomorrow when they face Cougars of Misericordia Univeristy at 8:30 a.m.
