Emory & Henry Women's Tennis Gets Past Guilford, 5-4, In ODAC Play

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team (7-9, 2-6 ODAC) eclipsed last season's win total with a 5-4 win over Guilford College (5-6, 2-5 ODAC) Sunday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.

Junior Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) and freshman Taylor Evans (Weber City, Va.) took an 8-5 win at the top doubles flight and Wingate earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory at the premier singles pairing. Evans won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

Freshman Meredith Yeary (Knoxville, Tenn.) picked up a three-set win to clinch the match while sophomore Sheyenne Cleveland (Rural Retreat, Va.) won, 6-1 7-5, at the fourth singles flight.

Emory & Henry will remain at home on Friday when it hosts Hollins University in ODAC play at the E&H Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m.
