Alyssa Wingate Named ODAC Women's Tennis Player Of The Week

FOREST, Va. - Emory & Henry College's Alyssa Wingate has been selected as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, ODAC officials announced Monday afternoon. It is the second time this year that an E&H player has won weekly league honors.

The junior from Independence, Va., led the Wasps with a 4-0 week, winning both of her doubles and singles matches over tough ODAC opponents. She posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at the top singles flight on Friday at Sweet Briar and claimed a 6-4, 6-4 decision against Guilford Sunday

Wingate and doubles partner freshman Taylor Evans (Weber City, Va.), who was ODAC Player of the Week for Week Four, were perfect in doubles winning 8-1 and 8-5 over the Vixens and Quakers, respectively.

For the season, Wingate is 9-6 on the year at the premier spot in the singles lineup. She and Evans are 8-6 in doubles play. She has three matches left of the regular season to win 10 singles and doubles matches for the second straight year.

Emory & Henry will return to the court on Friday afternoon when it hosts Hollins University in ODAC play at the E&H Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m.
