Emory & Henry Women's Tennis Defeats Southern Virginia, 6-3, Friday

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team (2-0) picked up a 6-3 win over Southern Virginia University (0-1) Friday afternoon at Richardson Tennis Courts. The Wasps were able to overcome a 2-0 deficit to begin the match due to only having five players in action.

Emory & Henry won both of the doubles matches that were contested to tie the match up, 2-2. Senior Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) and sophomore Meredith Yeary (Knoxville, Tenn.) were victorious, 8-2, at the top doubles pairing while senior Emily Bolt (Independence, Va.) and sophomore Taylor Evans (Weber City, Va.) claimed an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.

E&H claimed victory in the top four singles flights to take the overall match win. Wingate bested her opponent, (6-4, 6-0), in the premier singles match while Evans won by the same 6-4, 6-0 score at No. 2 singles. Yeary won 6-1, 6-4 at the third singles flight while freshman Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) was nearly perfect in a 6-1, 6-0 win.

The Wasps will close out the fall portion of their season on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Maryville (Tenn.) College for a 4:00 p.m., matchup with the Scots.
