Emory & Henry Women’s Tennis Defeats Guilford, 6-3, Sunday On The Road

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team (7-8, 1-6 ODAC) snapped its eight-match losing streak and claimed its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference win of the season with a 6-3 victory over Guilford College (5-8, 1-6 ODAC) Sunday afternoon.

The Wasps got out to a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion of the match. Freshmen Stella Di Michele (San Remo, ITALY) and Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) picked up an 8-3 win at the top doubles spot. Senior Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) teamed up with sophomore Meredith Yeary (Knoxville, Tenn.) to claim an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, Di Michele won 6-0, 6-1 at the premier singles pairing while Wingate and Yeary both claimed wins by scores of 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights. At the fourth singles pairing, Riner picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win to complete the day for the Wasps.

Emory & Henry will next take the court when it travels to Hollins University on Friday for a 4:00 p.m., ODAC matchup.
