Emory & Henry Women’s Tennis Has Two Selected To All-ODAC Teams

FOREST, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team has seen two of its players selected to the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference teams, ODAC officials announced Thursday. It is the first time since 2009 that E&H players have received all-league honors.

Freshman Stella Di Michele (San Remo, ITALY) was named ODAC Rookie of the Year and earned All-ODAC First-Team honors at No. 1 singles after a 16-1 (10-1 ODAC) season. Her lone loss on the year came to Washington and Lee University's Sonja Meighan, who earned her third-straight ODAC Player of the Year award.

Di Michele is the first rookie of the year for E&H since the league began giving the award in 2004 and also the first player to be honored at the top singles flight. The last Wasp to win a major ODAC honor in women's tennis was Gina Miano, who was the conference player of the year in 1985 and 1986.

In doubles play, Di Michele and freshman Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) were selected to the All-ODAC Second Team for their performance at the Wasps' No. 1 pairing. The duo teamed up for a 6-3 overall record, going 6-2 against league competition.

Emory & Henry finished the year with a 10-10 record, its first 10-win season since 2009 and showing consistent improvement over the past four campaigns. The Wasps reached the ODAC Tournament for the first time since 2009, earning the seventh seed after being picked to finish 10th in the league.
