Emory & Henry Women’s Tennis Competes In Bluefield Invitational Over The Weekend

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team opened the 2014-15 season over the weekend at the Bluefield College Invitational. The Wasps sent four players to the tournament which featured a singles and a doubles component.

Junior Chiara Mossi (Manduria, ITALY) won all three of her matches in the No. 2 singles draw by a 6-0, 6-0 score and was crowned the flight champion. She defeated Reed Kegel of Roanoke College in the final.

Sophomore Zoe Aguayo (Moravian Falls, N.C.) went 2-1 on the weekend at No. 5 singles tying Kaity Diskerud of Roanoke for third.

At the top singles flight, sophomore Stella Di Michele (San Remo, ITALY) posted a 1-1 record to finish tied for third. Sophomore Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) was also 1-1 in the No. 4 singles draw.

In doubles play, Di Michele and Mossi posted a pair of 8-0 wins in the number one draw to earn the tournament championship. The duo defeated Karlie Pope and Rebecca Havens of Bluefield to win the flight. The No. 2 doubles draw saw Riner and Aguayo go 1-1 to finish in a tie for third.

Emory & Henry will be back in action this weekend when it travels to the ITA South Regional Tournament on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta.
