Emory & Henry Women’s Tennis Picked To Finish Fifth This Season By ODAC Coaches

FOREST, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team has been tabbed as fifth-best in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference by the league's 12 head coaches, ODAC officials announced Thursday.

The Wasps, under second-year Head Coach Jessica Giuggioli, are coming off a 10-10 season last year and a 4-7 mark in conference play. The seventh-place finish gave E&H a spot in the ODAC Tournament for the first time since the 2009 season and only the fourth time since the league went to a team dual championship format in 2007.

Emory & Henry returns two players from last season and has four newcomers to the roster, all of whom are expected to make an immediate impact.

Perennial ODAC power Washington and Lee University, which has won 24 league titles, is picked to win its 13-straight championship this season, receiving 11 of the 12 first-place votes and 121 points. Roanoke College is second with 108 points while Randolph-Macon College and Bridgewater College are third (94 pts.) and fourth (90 pts.), respectively.

Emory & Henry earned the final first-place vote in the poll with 75 points for its number five ranking. It is the highest that the Wasps have been projected to finish in the team dual championship era.

E&H, which played in three invitational tournaments during the fall portion of the season, will open the spring on Sunday, February 22 when it travels to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to face Salem College. The Wasps will open at home on Friday, February 27 against Bluefield College and begin ODAC play at Randolph-Macon College on Sunday, March 1.
