SALEM, Va. - On Sunday afternoon, the men's and women's tennis teams dropped an ODAC match at Roanoke College.  The loss for the women is the second ODAC loss of the season, while the men dropped their fifth of the year.  The women's team (6-4, 3-2 ODAC) was able to earn a couple victories, as the team lost 7-2.  The men (1-9, 0-5 ODAC) were shutout, 9-0.

At one doubles, Sveva Mazzari (San Remo, ITALY) and Savanna Summers (Bluff City, Tn.) lost their first doubles match as tandem on the year.  The two went down 8-2.  At two doubles Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) and Kaitlyn Sheaves (Staunton, Va.) were blanked 8-0.  Katie Meade (Coeburn, Va.) and Ana-Belen Gomez (Irving, Texas) were able to win one game, but ultimately lost, 8-1. 

Mazzari continued her hot streak at one singles, winning 6-1, 6-0.  Riner fell, 6-0, 6-1, at two singles.  At three singles, Summers came up short, 6-1, 6-1.  At four, Gomez was blanked, 6-0, 6-0.  Sheaves also lost, 6-1, 6-1.  Meade earned her sixth straight victory in singles on the day.  She won her match, 10-8, 6-5, at six singles.

The men started out tough at one doubles, but the team of John Dalton Ferguson (Gate City, Va.) and Luke Funkhouser (Gate City, Va.) went down, 8-5.  Kamil Aliev (Moscow, RUSSIA) and Andrew McClung (Roanoke, Va.) were defeated, 8-3.  And at three doubles Jared Carter (Gate City, Va.) and James Watson-Dare (Charlotte, N.C.) were shutout, 8-0.

Ferguson lost, 6-2, 6-3, at one singles for the Wasps.  Aliev went down, 6-4, 6-1, while Funkouser lost 6-1, 6-0.  McClung played a tough match at four singles, but was outlasted, as he fell 7-6, 6-1.  Watson-Dare lost, 6-1, 6-2, and Carter lost, 6-0, 6-0, at five and six, respectively.

Both the men and women play at home on Saturday April 9th versus Virginia Wesleyan.
