FOREST, Va. - Emory & Henry College's Sveva Mazzari has been selected as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, ODAC officials announced Monday afternoon. It is the second time in her career that Mazzari has received weekly honors from the league.
The freshman from San Remo, ITALY, led the Wasps to a 1-1 week in ODAC play with a perfect 4-0 match record. Emory & Henry is currently 7-5 on the year with a 4-3 mark against conference opponents.
In Saturday's 6-0 win against Virginia Wesleyan, Mazarri earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at the premier singles pairing and put together an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles alongside junior Savanna Summers (Bluff City, Tenn.).
Facing Randolph-Macon, which is ranked No. 14 in the NCAA Division III Atlantic South Region, on Sunday, Mazzari earned two of the Wasps' three points. She posted a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1singles and battled beside Summers for an 8-6 win at the top doubles flight.
For the year, Mazzari holds a 12-0 record in dual matches and is a perfect 7-0 against ODAC competition. She is 10-2 in doubles, posting a 6-1 mark against conference opponents.
Emory & Henry will return to the court on Saturday afternoon when it travels to Ferrum for a non-conference contest against the Panthers. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
