FOREST, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team has seen three of its players selected to the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference teams, ODAC officials announced Monday. It is the second time in three years that E&H players have been tabbed for all-league honors.
Freshman Sveva Mazzari (San Remo, ITALY) leads the way at the ODAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year in addition to an all-league first-team nod at No. 1 singles. She posted a perfect 17-0 dual-match record during the year and was also perfect with a 10-0 mark against ODAC opponents.
Mazzari becomes the third ODAC Women's Tennis Player of the Year in program history. Gina Miano earned the honor in back-to-back years in 1985 and 1986, leading the Wasps to three-straight conference championships (1985, 1986, 1987).
In addition to Mazzari’s success in singles, she receives an All-ODAC Second Team nod alongside junior Savanna Summers (Bluff City, Tenn.) for their work at No. 1 doubles. The duo notched a 12-3 record over the spring, going 8-2 versus conference competition.
Also named to the All-ODAC Second Team was freshman Katie Meade (Coeburn, Va.). Meade went 11-3 overall during the season with an 8-1 league tally. She was a perfect 6-0 at the No. 6 singles position, earning five league wins
Emory & Henry finished the year with an 11-7 record, its second 10-win season in three years. The Wasps posted a 6-4 ODAC record, tying them for fourth after being picked to finish seventh. E&H reached the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament for the first time in program history, defeating Lynchburg College by a 5-0 score in the quarterfinals.
