EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Tennis Teams have a strong outlook moving forward from the 2015-16 season. With Steve Brooks at the helm, the Wasps will make a push to be a major factor in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.  Although the men's team has missed the league's postseason event for the past three seasons, the women's program had a historic run this spring.

The Emory & Henry women finished the season with an 11-7 overall record (6-4 ODAC) and reached the ODAC Tournament Semifinals for the first time since the current dual match tournament format was adopted in 2007. The Wasps' 5-0 quarterfinal victory over Lynchburg was the first in program history and marked the first postseason win since2007.

The team was led by the brilliance of Sveva Mazzari at the No. 1 singles flight. Mazzari was selected as the ODAC Player of the Year and was also named to the All-ODAC First Team. She is the first E&H women's tennis player to receive the honor since 1986. Mazarri is the second player to be named to the All-ODAC First Team since the 2007 season when the all-conference format changed to a coaches' vote.

Mazzari posted a 17-0 dual match record including a 10-0 mark in ODAC play, shutting out nine opponents with a 6-0, 6-0 score throughout the year. Mazzari finished the regular season ranked No. 12 in the Atlantic South Region by the NCAA and was the No. 25 player by the ITA.

Mazzari posted a 13-3 record in doubles, and for most of the season, teamed up with Savanna Summers, for a 12-2 record. The duo earned a spot on the All-ODAC Second Team at No. 1 doubles. Summers won eight matches over the season, playing No. 3 singles. Also making in All-ODAC Team was freshman Katie Meade. Meade posted a 12-2 record at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots on her way to an All-ODAC Second Team nod. Meade notched an 11-match win streak during the season and also earned seven doubles wins.

Lauren Riner played mostly at No. 2 singles and doubles this year. She earned five singles wins to go along with seven doubles victories. Joining the team in the spring, Ana-Belen Gomez played at No. 4 singles, picking up wins over Virginia Wesleyan and Ferrum. Kaitlyn Sheaves earned five wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 five spots and also won seven doubles matches. Kala Curtis and Emma Baltuskonis provided depth for the Wasps and Curtis earned a pair of victories early in the year.

While the men's team did not fare as well, the Wasps gained valuable experience for the future. At No. 1 singles and doubles, John Dalton Ferguson led the squad in wins. The junior accumulated seven wins at singles and four in doubles play. Kamil Aliev, who played No. 2 singles earned wins over Shenandoah and Hampden-Sydney. Luke Funkhouser, played No. 3 for most the season, tallying a pair of victories. Additionally, Funkhouser won the consolation bracket in both singles and doubles at the Methodist 2-of-3 Tournament last fall.

Liam Davidson, who fell to Funkhouser in the Methodist Tournament Consolation final, played No. 4 singles. Andrew McClung played in the middle of the lineup during the year and teamed up with Davidson for a spot in the doubles consolation finals at Methodist. James Watson-Dare and Jared Carter added much-needed depth after joining the team in spring.
