Emory & Henry Women's Tennis Defeats Roanoke, 5-4, In ODAC Finale Friday

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team (8-5, 5-5 ODAC) bounced back from a 2-1 deficit after doubles to earn a 5-4 win over Roanoke College (6-3, 4-3 ODAC) Friday afternoon in the final match Old Dominion Athletic Conference match for both squads. The match was moved from Saturday because of the forecast of rain in Southwest Virginia. The Wasps have clinched one of the top nine spots in the ODAC standings and will play in the postseason for the second time in three years.

How It Happened
 The Maroons opened up a 2-1 lead through doubles. E&H's victory came at the No. 3 pairing as junior Cailie Pollard (Rural Retreat, Va.) and sophomore Sarah Marion (Dobson, N.C.) won by an 8-1 score.

In singles, sophomore Payton Holt (Mount Ulla, N.C.) was leading by a set and a 3-0 score in the second when her opponent retired. Marion grabbed her second win of the day - 6-2, 6-4 - at No. 4 while junior Logan Graham (Radford, Va.) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5. Pollard also made it a two-win day, defeating her opponent by a 6-0, 6-0 score at No. 6.
