Emory & Henry Women's Tennis Blanks Maryville, 9-0, Friday Afternoon

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team (1-0) grabbed four of six singles matches on its way to a 4-3 win over Southern Virginia University (0-1) Wednesday afternoon.

How It Happened
The match started with E&H leading, 3-0, due to the Scots defaulting at No. 3 doubles, No. 5 and No. 6 singles due to an incomplete lineup.

The Wasps claimed the other two doubles pairings with sophomores Sabina Chernega (Odesa, UKRAINE) and Mackenzie Graham (Tazewell, Va.) winning by an 8-5 score at No. 1 while sophomore Esme Atkinson (Midlothian, Va.) and freshman Nina Williams (Fleet, ENGLAND) picked up an 8-6 decision at No. 2.

In singles play, junior Emma Charlton (Newcastle upon Tyne, ENGLAND) won by a 6-0, 6-3 mark at the top flight while Williams grabbed her second win of the day - 6-3, 6-2 - at No. 2. Freshman Katie Bradley (Auchterarder, SCOTLAND) earned a 6-2, 7-5 win at the third pairing while freshman Natalie Bergmann's (Forest Hills, N.Y.) 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 4 completed the sweep.
