Wingate Men’s & Women’s Tennis Defeat Emory & Henry Friday Afternoon

BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Emory & Henry College Men's Tennis Team (4-8, 0-5 SAC) and Women's Tennis Team (4-6, 0-5 SAC) each dropped a match to Wingate University in South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday afternoon. The Bulldogs' No. 29 nationally-ranked men's squad and No. 35-ranked women's team each won by 6-0 scores.

The contests were moved indoors to Bristol Sportsplex in Bristol, Tennessee due to rainy weather. Doubles matches were not contested because of limited court time.

Men's Match
- Sophomore Branson Smith (Fletcher, N.C.) lost a tough 4-6, 2-6 decision at No. 1 singles and fellow sophomore Juan Alvarez (Metepec, MEXICO) put up a fight but fell by a 2-6, 4-6 score at No. 3 singles.
- Freshman James Smith (Brentwood, Tenn.) battled in the No. 5 singles spot, but came up short by a 5-8 scoreline.

Women's Match
- Freshman Natalie Bergmann (Forest Hills, N.Y.) narrowly dropped her match at No. 4 singles to opponent Alex Lopez by a 4-6, 4-6 decision.
- Freshman Katie Bradley (Auchterarder, SCOTLAND) put in a strong performance at No. 5 singles but fell 1-6, 3-6.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry makes the trip to the mountains of North Carolina on Tuesday to face off against the Lions of Mars Hill University. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
