Newberry Tennis Earns A Pair Of 7-0 Wins Over Emory & Henry Tuesday

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Men's Tennis Team (5-12, 1-9 SAC) and Women's Tennis Team (4-11, 0-10 SAC) fell in South Atlantic Conference play to Newberry College on Tuesday afternoon. The No. 12 nationally-ranked Newberry women's team defeated the Wasps 7-0 while the Wolves' men's squad also won by a 7-0 scoreline.

Men's Match
- The Wolves swept the doubles portion to take the 1-0 lead despite a tough battle from the No. 2 doubles team of freshman Diego Alvarez (Bogota, COLOMBIA) and freshman Tristan Hicks (Abingdon, Va.) who fell in a tiebreak 6-7 (3-7).
- Sophomore Juan Alvarez (Metepec, MEXICO) battled but dropped his decision at No. 3 singles by a 3-6, 5-7 score.
- Freshman James Smith (Brentwood, Tenn.) came up short in his match at No. 5 singles 4-6, 3-6.

Women's Match
- The No. 2 doubles team of freshman Katie Bradley (Auchterarder, SCOTLAND) and junior Emma Charlton (Newcastle upon Tyne, ENGLAND) picked up a big 6-3 win, but Newberry took the other two doubles matches for the 1-0 advantage.
- Millie Turner (Chobham, ENGLAND) put up a fight at No. 6 singles but fell 4-8.

- Emory & Henry makes the trip down Interstate 81 on Tuesday, April 11 to take on the Pioneers of Tusculum University. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
