Emory & Henry Women’s Tennis Handles Milligan, 5-2, Friday On The Road

MILLIGAN, Tenn. - The Emory & Henry College Men's Tennis Team (0-2) and Women's Tennis Team (2-0) split a pair of matches against Milligan University on Friday afternoon. The women's team topped the Buffaloes by a 5-2 margin while the men's team dropped a 5-2 decision.

Women's Match
- The Wasps took the 1-0 lead after a clean sweep of doubles. The No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Natalie Bergmann (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and junior Sabina Chernega (Odesa, UKRAINE) dominated by a 6-0 margin. Senior Emma Charlton (Newcastle upon Tyne, ENGLAND) and freshman Kira Turpin (Godalming, ENGLAND) picked up a 6-4 win and the freshman duo of Karlie Quinn (Mocksville, N.C.) and Olivia Pursley (Hendersonville, N.C.) completed the sweep with a 7-6 (7-1) victory.
- Charlton was victorious at No. 2 singles with a score of 7-5, 6-4.
- Turpin won at the No. 3 singles spot 6-3, 6-0 and Bergmann outlasted her Milligan foe at No. 4 singles, winning in a tiebreaker 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7).
- Pursley rounded out the day for E&H, as she won at No. 6 singles 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6).

Men's Match
- The Buffaloes jumped ahead 1-0 with a sweep of the doubles portion of the match.
- Junior Branson Smith (Fletcher, N.C.) earned a win at No. 2 singles by a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) scoreline.
- Freshman Will Bayliss (Totland, Isle of Wight, ENGLAND) bested his opponent 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) at No. 4 singles.

- The Emory & Henry men's team will be in action again tomorrow at Guilford College. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
