Emory & Henry Women’s Tennis Drops A Pair To Newberry And Converse

NEWBERRY, S.C/SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Emory & Henry College Women's Tennis Team (2-2, 0-1 SAC) opened up its 2024 spring season with matches against Newberry College (6-2, 2-1 SAC) and Converse University (5-4) over the weekend. 

Saturday's Basics
FINAL SCORE - Newberry 6, Emory & Henry 1
LOCATION - Newberry, South Carolina

RECORDS - Emory & Henry (2-1, 0-1 SAC); Newberry (6-2, 2-1 SAC)

The Newberry Match
- Newberry swept the doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead.
- Sophomore Katie Bradley (Auchterarder, SCOTLAND) was victorious at No. 6 singles, defeating her opponent 8-4.
- Freshman Kira Turpin (Godalming, ENGLAND) battled at the No. 3 singles position, eventually falling in three sets 3-6, 7-5, 3-6.

LOCATION - Spartanburg, South Carolina

RECORDS - Emory & Henry (2-2, 0-1 SAC); Converse (5-4, 0-0 Carolinas)

The Converse Match
- The Valkyries took two of the three doubles matches to go up 1-0. Bradley and sophomore Nina Williams (Fleet, ENGLAND) were victorious by a 6-4 score at the third flight.
- Turpin topped her opponent at No. 3 singles by a 6-3, 6-4 margin to get the Wasps on the board.
- Freshman Karlie Quinn (Mocksville, N.C.) put up a fight at No. 6 singles, but came up short by a 2-6, 4-6 final score.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry is back in action on Tuesday, March 5 when the Wasps host Midway University. First serve is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. from the Ida Jones Tennis Center in Bristol, Tennessee.
