Emory & Henry Women’s Tennis Earns First SAC Win In Program History With 4-3 Decision Over Mars Hill

BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Emory & Henry College Men's Tennis Team (2-8, 0-4 SAC) and Women's Tennis Team (3-6, 1-3 SAC) split a pair of South Atlantic Conference matches against Mars Hill University Wednesday afternoon at the Ida Jones Tennis Center. The women's team defeated the Lions by a 4-3 margin for the program's first win in SAC play, while the men's squad fell by a narrow 4-3 decision.

Women's Match
- The doubles team of sophomore Natalie Bergmann (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and senior Emma Charlton (Newcastle upon Tyne, ENGLAND) defeated their opponents at No. 1 doubles by a 6-4 score. The duo of junior Sabina Chernega (Odesa, UKRAINE) and freshman Karlie Quinn (Mocksville, N.C.) won in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-4) to clinch the doubles point and give the Wasps the 1-0 lead.
- Bergmann made quick work of Maria Razzetta at No. 3 singles by a 6-2, 6-3 final score.
- Sophomore Katie Bradley (Auchterarder, SCOTLAND) won a hard-fought match at No. 5 singles, eventually besting Lilah Dean in a third-set tiebreak 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5).
- Sophomore Nina Williams (Fleet, ENGLAND) dispatched Lauren Schave 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 4 singles position to clinch the win 

Men's Match
- The doubles partnership of sophomore Diego Alvarez (Bogota, COLOMBIA) and freshman Will Bayliss (Totland, Isle of Wight, ENGLAND) topped Sasha Molina and Diego Lopez at No. 2 doubles 6-4, but the Lions won the other two doubles matches to take the 1-0 advantage.
- Sophomore Kartik Parhar (Ludhiana, INDIA) won his match at No. 1 singles over Paulo Gutierrez by a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 margin.
- Junior Branson Smith (Fletcher, N.C.) defeated Marcos Martinez in straight sets at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-3.
- Bayliss took down Diego Lopez at No. 3 singles by a 6-3, 6-4 scoreline.

- Emory & Henry returns to play on Thursday, March 21 when the Wasps travel to face the Bulldogs of Wingate University. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. from Wingate, North Carolina.
