Salem (W.Va.) Women's Tennis Defeats Emory & Henry, 4-3, Sunday Afternoon

BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Emory & Henry College Men's Tennis Team (2-10) and Women's Tennis Team (3-8) fell in non-conference action to Salem (W.Va.) University at the Ida Jones Tennis Center Sunday afternoon. The Tigers' men's team won their match 5-2 while the women's squad topped the Wasps 4-3.

Women's Match
- The duo of junior Sabina Chernega (Odesa, UKRAINE) and freshman Karlie Quinn (Mocksville, N.C.) won by forfeit at No. 3 doubles, but Salem won the other two matches to establish an early 1-0 advantage.
- Senior Emma Charlton (Newcastle upon Tyne, ENGLAND) topped Dasha Korsakova at the No. 2 singles position in thrilling, three-set fashion 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7).
- Freshman Meghan Moore (Midlothian, Va.) won at No. 5 singles by a 6-1, 6-2 margin over Miriam Buendia at No. 5 singles.
- Quinn earned another win by forfeit at the No. 6 singles position. 

Men's Match
- The doubles partnership of sophomore Kartik Parhar (Ludhiana, INDIA) and junior Branson Smith (Fletcher, N.C.) defeated their opponents 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, but the Tigers took the other two matches to jump ahead 1-0.
- Parhar dispatched Skander Mezouar at No. 1 singles by a 6-3, 6-2 final score.
- Sophomore Diego Alvarez (Bogota, COLOMBIA) defeated Simon Braeuning at No. 4 singles by a 7-5, 6-1 scoreline.
- Freshman Will Bayliss (Totland, Isle of Wight, ENGLAND) dropped a tough third-set tiebreak 6-2, 5-7, 0-1 (8-10) to Pablo Guillen at No. 3 singles.

Up Next
- The Wasps return to play on Thursday, March 28 when they play host to the Eagles of Carson-Newman University. First serve is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. from the Ida Jones Tennis Center.
