
EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry University Men's Tennis Team (0-2) and Women's Tennis Team (0-2) got their spring 2025 season underway Tuesday afternoon against North Greenville University. The Trailblazers' men's and women's teams both defeated the Wasps by scores of 6-1.

Men's Match
- Freshman Leo Knothe (Hanover, GERMANY) and sophomore Niclas Naedele (Munich, GERMANY) teamed up for a big 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles while sophomore Will Bayliss (Totland, Isle of Wight, ENGLAND) and junior Diego Alvarez (Bogota, COLOMBIA) combined for a 7-6 win at No. 3 doubles to clinch the doubles point and give the Wasps a 1-0 lead.
- Naedele gave Juho Kantola everything he could handle at No. 1 singles, but eventually fell by a 4-6, 6-3, 0-1 (9-11) scoreline.
- Bayliss got off to a hot start at No. 3 singles as he won the opening set before falling to Gabriel Pegoraro 6-3, 4-6, 0-1 (6-10).
Women's Match
- The doubles partnership of freshman Ellyson Kovacs (Bristol, Tenn.) and sophomore Olivia Pursley (Hendersonville, N.C.) picked up a win over Ashlen Chapman and Lauren Chisholm by a 6-3 margin at No. 3 doubles. The Trailblazers won the other two doubles matches to take the doubles point and establish an early 1-0 lead.
- Senior Sabina Chernega (Odesa, UKRAINE) made quick work of Martina Cairus at the No.1 singles position as she earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
- Kovacs battled at the No. 3 singles spot, pushing Daphney Houtsofta to a third set before coming up short 5-7, 7-5, 0-1 (0-10).

- The Wasps are back in action next Monday, February 10 when they travel to take on the Royals of Johnson (Tenn.) University. First serve is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. from Knoxville, Tennessee.
