Emory & Henry Women's Tennis Falls To Catawba, 4-0, In SAC Opener

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Emory & Henry University Men's Tennis Team (1-3, 0-1 SAC) and Women's Tennis Team (1-3, 0-1 SAC) both fell to Catawba College in each team's South Atlantic Conference opener Tuesday afternoon. The Catawba Indians took both matches by a 4-0 scoreline.

Men's Match
- The Catawba Indians won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles flights to clinch the doubles point and take an early 1-0 lead.
- Sophomore Niclas Naedele (Munich, GERMANY) fell by a 3-6, 4-6 decision to Mateo Berne at No. 1 singles.
- Augustin Mastri defeated freshman Leo Knothe (Hanover, GERMANY) 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
- Sophomore Will Bayliss (Totland, Isle of Wight, ENGLAND) was trailing 2-6, 4-2 in his No. 3 singles match to Luca Bergonzi in a match that was left unfinished.
- Junior Nathan Spurling (Abingdon, Va.) was also trailing 5-7, 0-4 at No. 4 singles to Alessandro Valleta as their match was left unfinished.
- Ryosuke Inagawa topped junior Diego Alvarez (Bogota, COLOMBIA) by a 1-6, 1-6 score at No. 5 singles.
- Junior Keenan Glago (Harrisonburg, Va.) trailed Sebastian Zebala 3-6, 3-5 but their No. 6 singles match was also left unfinished. 

Women's Match
- The Wasps dropped both matches at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles as Catawba jumped ahead 1-0.
- Senior Sabina Chernega (Odesa, UKRAINE) was defeated 0-6, 2-6 by Sofia Antolini at No. 1 singles.
- Freshman Tahnne Sesma (Zumaia, SPAIN) dropped a 0-6, 0-6 decision to Anna Wise at the No. 2 singles position.
- Freshman Ellyson Kovacs (Bristol, Tenn.) was trailing 2-6, 0-4 to Ami Miya at No. 3 singles when their match was left unfinished.
- Lilliana Drukerova was leading junior Nina Williams (Fleet, ENGLAND) 4-6, 0-4 at No. 4 singles as their match was left unfinished.
- Rin Igarashi led sophomore Olivia Pursley (Hendersonville, N.C.) by a 1-6, 1-5 margin when their No. 5 singles match was left unfinished.
- Sophomore Karlie Quinn (Mocksville, N.C.) fell by a 0-6, 1-6 scoreline to Tina Gomes at the No. 6 singles position.

- The Wasps women's team will next be in action on Wednesday, February 26 when they take on Radford University in an exhibition match. The men's team returns to the courts on Thursday, February 27 at Lenoir-Rhyne University.
