Emory & Henry Women’s Tennis Falls To No. 23 Wingate, 4-0, In SAC Duel

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry University Women's Tennis Team (2-9, 1-6 SAC) and Men's Tennis Team (1-10, 0-7 SAC) both fell to nationally-ranked Wingate University in a pair of South Atlantic Conference matches Saturday. The Bulldogs earned wins in both matches by a score of 4-0.

Men's Match
- The No. 7 nationally-ranked Bulldogs took wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to earn the doubles point and the 1-0 advantage.
- Sophomore Niclas Naedele (Munich, GERMANY) was defeated 1-6, 0-6 by Gabriel Constantino at the No. 1 singles position.
- Freshman Leo Knothe (Hanover, GERMANY) dropped a 1-6, 3-6 decision to Luka Brown at No. 2 singles.
- Sophomore Will Bayliss (Totland, Isle of Wight, ENGLAND) battled, but lost the opening set by a narrow 5-7 margin to Rodrigo De la Torre at No. 3 singles before the match was unfinished.
- Junior Tristan Hicks (Abingdon, Va.) was defeated 2-6, 0-6 by Federico Spinetta at the No. 4 singles position.
- Junior Nathan Spurling (Abingdon, Va.) trailed Jashan Joachim 0-6, 0-5 at No. 5 singles, but the match was unfinished.
- Junior Keenan Glago (Harrisonburg, Va.) was behind 1-6, 1-5 to Petar Basic in the No. 6 singles match, but it was unfinished. 

Women's Match
- The No. 23 Bulldogs took wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles to jump ahead by the 1-0 margin.
- Senior Sabina Chernega (Odesa, UKRAINE) was defeated 0-6, 0-6 by Chloe Kosmrlj at No. 1 singles.
- Freshman Tahnne Sesma (Zumaia, SPAIN) trailed Fernanda Castillo 1-6, 1-4 when their No. 2 singles match was abandoned.
- Freshman Ellyson Kovacs (Bristol, Tenn.) was downed 0-6, 0-6 by Suzuka Sambyakugari at No. 3 singles.
- Junior Nina Williams (Fleet, ENGLAND) kept the match close, but trailed 4-6, 2-3 to Claudia Vallejos at No. 4 singles when the match was left unfinished.
- Sophomore Olivia Pursley (Hendersonville, N.C.) won the opening set of her No. 5 singles match against Gigi Hinson 6-1 and trailed by a slim 2-3 margin in the second set when it was abandoned.
- Sophomore Karlie Quinn (Mocksville, N.C.) fell 0-6, 0-6 to Daniela Kotara at No. 6 singles.

- Emory & Henry returns to the courts on Tuesday, March 25 when the Wasps travel to take on the Eagles of Carson-Newman University. The women's match begins at 11:00 a.m., while the men's match gets underway at 2:00 p.m. from Jefferson City, Tennessee.
