Emory & Henry Women’s Track & Field Closes The Year At LR Outdoor Open Saturday

HICKORY, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Track & Field Teams concluded the 2022 season on Saturday at the LR Outdoor Open. The men's squad finished eighth overall, breaking a pair of school records while the women's team broke a pair of records as well.

Top Men's Performances
- Freshman Gavin Lee (North Tazewell, Va.) earned a pair of top-five finishes, taking third in the discus (43.68m) and fourth in the hammer throw at 42.58 meters. Freshman Zavery Wallace (Buena Vista, Va.) notched a 10th place finish in the shot put at 12.60 meters.
- Freshman Zedrick Yeboah (Fredericksburg, Va.) was ninth in the 400 meters with a school-record time of :50.83 and also broke the E&H best in the 200 meters at :23.01 which was good for 11th.
- Senior Lucas Biggerstaff (Knoxville, Tenn.) took third place in the flat 3,000 meters with a time of 11:44.28.
- In the 4x100 meter relay, Yeboah, freshman Khalid Williams (Manassas, Va.), freshman Hayden Oglesby (Virginia Beach, Va.) and freshman Bryce Cobler (Meadowview, Va.) finished in seventh place at :48.63.
- In the jumps, freshman Zadok Laryea (Ruther Glen, Va.) was 10th in the long jump with a mark of 5.35 meters.

Women's Top Performances
- Freshman Michelle Diaz (Woodbridge, Va.) claimed two more school-record performances as she broke the record in the 100 meters at :13.48 and the 200 meters with a time of :27.30. She was 13th and 17th in the two distances, respectively.
- Freshman Chloe Jones (Harrison, Tenn.) took ninth in the 400 meters, clocking a 1:06.35 as Diaz added a 10th-place finish.
- Sophomore Madeline Bishop (Collinsville, Va.) ran a 2:44.57 in the 800 meters which was good for 21st, and was 25th in the 1,500 meters (5:46.66).
- In the throws, freshman Avery Word (Fincastle, Va.) led the Wasps by finishing 11th in the shot put (9.87m), 12th in the discus (24.37m) and 15th in the hammer throw (25.71m). Freshman Beverley Vedder (Virginia Beach, Va.) was 13th in the discus at 23.54 meters and placed 20th in the javelin (19.04m).
