Emory & Henry Women’s Track & Field Finishes 13th At SAC Outdoor Championships

HICKORY, N.C. – The Emory & Henry University Men's & Women's Track & Field Teams concluded the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday evening. The men's squad posted a seventh-place finish while the women took 13th in the team standings.

The men broke or set six records on the day while the women eclipsed three program marks.

The Men
- Shot Put – Junior Zavery Wallace (Buena Vista, Va.) took ninth with a mark of 14.52 meters.
- Triple Jump – Sophomore Drew Craft (Covington, Va.) came in 12th, leaping 13.85 meters.
- Discus – Junior Gavin Lee (North Tazewell, Va.) got his second podium of the meet, placing third with a school-record mark of 49.41 meters. Wallace was seventh as freshman Malik Guadelupe (Woodbridge, Va.) placed 27th.
- High Jump – Sophomore Joseph Ihlenburg (Roanoke, Va.) came in 10th place at 1.81 meters with Craft coming in 13th.
- 100 Meter Finals
– Sophomore Will Humphrey, II (Charlotte, N.C.) placed sixth in 10.67 seconds.
- 400 Meter Hurdles Finals – Sophomore Barlowe Branch, III (Petersburg, Va.) was the runner-up, crossing the line in record time of 53.36 seconds to break the E&H record for the second day in a row.
- 5,000 Meters – Senior Matthew Klapak (Zion Crossroads, Va.) eclipsed the program's best time at 15.35.25 to finish 21st while junior Miles Baldwin (Willis, Va.) was 22nd, sophomore Davis Norman (Salem, Va.) was 23rd and sophomore Aidan Trautman (Centreville, Md.) was 26th.
- 4x400 Meter Relay – Branch, sophomore Heath Bowker (Salem, Va.), freshman Hayden Pugh (Louisa, Va.) and senior Aaron Wilson (Chester, Va.) placed fourth, setting a new E&H record at 3:15.63.
- Decathlon – Sophomore Nour Nabi (Lake Ridge, Va.) placed eighth, adding a third-place finish in the 110 meter hurdles, eighth in the discus, 10th in the pole vault, 11th in the javelin and fourth in the 1,500 meters. His height of 2.95 meters was good for an overall school record.

The Women
- Discus
– Junior Catie Leonard (Gray, Tenn.) finished 24th with a throw of 25.19 meters.
- High Jump – Junior Alyssa Chappell (Church Hill, Tenn.) placed 15th, clearing 1.50 meters while senior Hope Christensen (Moroni, Utah) was 17th at the same height.
- Shot Put – Leonard took 24th place at 8.33 meters.
- Triple Jump – Freshman Mia Spangler (Floyd, Va.) broke her school record with a performance of 11.19 meters, finishing ninth.
- 4x100 Meter Relay – The relay of freshman Kai Thomas (Dumfries, Va.), Spangler, junior Madison Ricketts (Kingsport, Tenn.) and freshman Aiyana Blakey (Woodbridge, Va.) finished eighth in 52.03 seconds.
- 1,500 Meter Finals
– Junior Delaney Eller (Salem, Va.) finished seventh as she broke the school record for the second day in a row at 4:39.95.
- 5,000 Meters – Eller placed ninth in 18:15.28.
- 4x400 Meter Relay – The group of sophomore Maya Turner (Midland, Va.), Ricketts, sophomore McKenzie Tate (Wytheville, Va.) and freshman Tess Somervell (Chilhowie, Va.) claimed eighth with a school-record time of 4:05.20.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will keep its eye on the national performance lists to see if any of its athletes are selected for the NCAA Division II Championships. The field for the championships will be posted on NCAA.com on Tuesday, May 13.
