Emory & Henry Volleyball Posts 2-2 Record At Averett Invitational

DANVILLE, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (3-2) went .500 for the weekend at the Averett Invitational Volleyball Tournament Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the E&H downed the Greensboro College Pride 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 31-29, 25-18).  The Wasps were able to bounce back and win the match after falling in the first set thanks to junior outside hitter Morgan Grant's (Abingdon, Va.) 10 kills and senior libero Samantha Lucado's (Salem, Va.) had 40 digs.

Emory & Henry faced host team Averett University in the Friday night match-up. The Cougars defeated the Wasps, 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 27-25, 25-20).  In a hard-fought third set, E&H lost 25-27 before losing the final game 20-25.  Grant again led the way offensively in the match putting down 23 kills on 45 attempts.  Fallon Davis (Mooresville, N.C.) dished out 57 assists in the match.  Jamie Cockerham (Galax, Va.) contributed 21 kills in the match-up while Lucado had 24 digs on the defensive side.

On Saturday, Southern Virginia University picked up a 3-0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-19) victory over E&H.  Middle hitter Kimmie Caudill (Galax, Va.) and Grant led the Wasps with eight kills each.  The Knights used their size, controlling the game at the net en route to the victory.

The Wasps defeated the Pacers of Peace College, 3-2 (25-21, 21-25, 25-13, 22-25, 15-8), in the final match of the tournament. Caudill led the Wasps with 12 kills on 29 attempts and Nicole Tesh (Boone, N.C.) contributed 11 kills on 29 swings. Grant and Cockerham were offensive forces again with each contributing 10 kills. Davis had 42 assists in the win. 

Emory & Henry will host Bluefield State on Thursday at 7:00 p.m., and will travel to Raleigh, N.C. Saturday for matches against Meredith College and Methodist University.
