Emory & Henry Volleyball Stings Virginia Wesleyan, 3-0, Friday In ODAC Play

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (6-4, 1-1 ODAC) put together a shocking performance Friday night as it pulled the upset over Virginia Wesleyan College (2-5, 0-2 ODAC) by a 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-21) score. The Marlins are picked to finish fourth in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play this season.

The Wasps led early and built their advantage to 19-8 in the first set. VWC ran off 11 of the next 15 points to draw the score to 23-19, but E&H took advantage of back-to-back errors, winning the first frame.

In the second stanza, the teams traded points back and forth with 10 ties including the final one at 24 points apiece. A kill by sophomore middle hitter Nicole Tesh (Boone, N.C.) sealed the set for the Wasps.

Emory & Henry and Virginia Wesleyan found themselves tied 12 times in the third set. With the score knotted at 17, junior middle hitter Kimmie Caudill (Galax, Va.) made back-to-back kills for a 19-17 lead. Another kill by Caudill gave the Wasps a three-point lead (21-18) that they would hold onto for the rest of the set.

Emory & Henry will continue their weekend trip Saturday morning when they visit Randolph-Macon College at 11:00 a.m.
