Randolph-Macon Volleyball Sweeps Emory & Henry, 3-0, Saturday Morning

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon College Volleyball Team (8-2, 2-0 ODAC) picked up a three-set victory over visiting Emory & Henry College (6-5, 1-2 ODAC) Saturday morning in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. The Yellow Jackets won by set scores of 25-17, 25-13 and 25-17.

Randolph-Macon got out to a 10-4 lead in the first set and never looked back thanks to five kills from Mallory Carter. The Yellow Jackets would lead by as much as nine points in the set before taking the win.

In the second frame, R-MC was able to slowly build its lead over the course of play and led 18-13 before reeling off seven straight points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set was tight with Emory & Henry holding its own and the score 9-7 in favor of Randolph-Macon. Three straight points gave the Yellow Jackets the spring they needed to roll to the 25-17 victory in the set and take the match.

Emory & Henry was led offensively by junior outside hitter Jamie Cockerham (Galax, Va.) with six kills while junior outside hitter Morgan Grant (Abingdon, Va.) and junior middle hitter Kimmie Caudill (Galax, Va.) each had five kills apiece. Sophomore setter Fallon Davis (Mooresville, N.C.) had 14 assists while senior defensive specialist Selena Trichel (Hilton Head, S.C.) registered a match-high nine digs.

Carter paced Randolph-Macon with a match-high 17 kills on the day while Jessica Sears had nine kills of her own. Bailey Troia led all players with 28 assists and Marli Dabareiner had eight digs.

Emory & Henry will return home to face Hollins University on Tuesday beginning at 7:00 p.m.
