Emory & Henry Volleyball Sweeps Bluefield State, 3-0, On The Road Tuesday

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (8-5) picked up a 3-0 win Tuesday night over Bluefield State College (0-9) at Ned Shott Gymnasium. The Wasps won by set scores of 25-10, 25-10 and 25-12.

Emory & Henry got out to a 10-0 lead in the first set and never looked back. Sophomore setter Fallon Davis (Mooresville, N.C.) had four service aces while junior outside hitter Morgan Grant (Abingdon, Va.) recorded eight kills in the set.

The Wasps got out to a 11-1 lead in the second set and held their lead through the frame. With the score 10-19, E&H served out the set to win 25-10. Junior middle Kimmie Caudill (Galax, Va.), freshman outside hitter Katelyn Kast (Christiansburg, Va.) and freshman right side Taylor Leland (Abingdon, Va.) each had three kills in the set.

In the final set, E&H sophomore middle Nicole Tesh (Boone, N.C.) led the way with five kills on six attempts while Leland added three kills as well. The Wasps hit .565 (16-3-23) in the final stanza.

For the match, Emory & Henry recorded 43 kills on 75 swings with just seven errors, a .480 hitting percentage. The Wasps tallied 16 service aces and eight blocks on the night.

Grant led E&H with 10 kills while Tesh and Leland added eight and six kills, respectively. Caudill had six blocks while Davis finished with 13 assists to lead the Wasps. Freshman setters Maleah Neely (Hillsville, Va.) and Carla Suthers (Wytheville, Va.) dished out 12 and 11 assists, respectively.

Bluefield State was led by Kiara Watkins with nine kills and six digs while Molly Dove recorded a match-high 16 assists.

Emory & Henry will return home on Thursday when it will host Southern Virginia University at 6:00 p.m. The match will also serve as the Wasps' annual Dig Pink event for breast cancer.
