Washington and Lee Defeats Emory & Henry, 3-0, To Snap Wasps' Win Streak Wednesday

EMORY, Va. - The Washington and Lee University Volleyball Team (18-2, 7-0 ODAC) picked up a three-set win over Emory & Henry College (10-6, 2-3 ODAC) Wednesday night inside the King Center in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. The Generals defeated the Wasps by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-22.

E&H got out to a 5-2 lead to start the first set, but W&L battled back, tying score at five. The two sides traded points back and forth until the score was tied at 11. The Generals went on to score five straight points to break the set open. After a side out by the Wasps, Washington and Lee had scoring runs of five and four points, sealing the victory. For the set, W&L posted a .538 hitting percentage (17-3-26).

Emory & Henry put up a 5-0 lead to begin the second set as well but saw the defending ODAC champion Generals rally to knot the score at five points apiece. Washington and Lee added to their lead until they found themselves up 24-13 with set point to go up 2-0 in the match. The Wasps would not go quietly, reeling off seven straight points before surrendering the set with a 25-20 score.

In the final set, E&H had a 13-7 lead but could not hang on against the visitors from Lexington. W&L chipped away at the Wasps' lead little by little as the set featured seven ties down the stretch, the last being at 22-22. Washington and Lee scored the final three points of the set to take the victory in the match.

The Generals were paced offensively by M.A. Boles and Megan Daily as the pair tallied 11 kills each and Boles added 10 digs. Meghan Meleski dished-out a match-high 34 assists while Cameron Hill registered 11 digs and four service aces from her libero spot.

Emory & Henry sophomore middle Nicole Tesh (Boone, N.C.) led all players will 11 kills, a .500 hitting percentage (11-2-18) and four blocks while junior outside hitter Morgan Grant (Abingdon, Va.) had six kills. Sophomore setter Fallon Davis (Mooresville, N.C.) recorded 14 assists and three service aces in the contest.

E&H will return to the court on Sunday afternoon as the Wasps are set to host the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
