Emory & Henry Volleyball Splits A Pair Of Matches Tuesday At Concord

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (13-8) split a pair of non-conference matches Tuesday evening on the road. The Wasps defeated the Cobras of Virginia Intermont College (9-13), 3-0 (25-14, 26-24, 26-24), in their first contest of the day before falling to host Concord University (12-12) by a 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-23).

E&H hit .520 (13-0-25) in the first set against Virginia Intermont on the way to a three-set victory. The Wasps also notched 10 service aces in the contest as they attacked at a .260 (39-13-100) clip for the match.

Junior outside hitter Jamie Cockerham (Galax, Va.) led Emory & Henry with 12 kills on 22 attempts with just two errors for a .455 hitting percentage while junior outside hitter Morgan Grant (Abingdon, Va.) registered a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore setter Fallon Davis (Mooresville, N.C.) dished-out 31 assists while senior libero Sam Lucado (Salem, Va.) had 11 digs.

In the nightcap, Concord hit .326 (40-9-95) over the match as it swept Emory & Henry, 3-0. Grant led the Wasps with 11 kills while Cockerham added nine kills. Sophomore middle Nicole Tesh (Boone, N.C.) tallied eight kills and two blocks for E&H. Davis had 28 assists and Lucado finished the contest with 15 digs.

Emory & Henry will take the court on Wednesday when it hosts Randolph College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action. The Wasps and WildCats will begin at 6:30 p.m.
