Emory & Henry Volleyball Splits A Pair Of Matches Saturday At Hollins Invitational

ROANOKE, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (7-2) split its two matches Saturday on the final day of the Hollins University Invitational. The Wasps defeated Wesleyan (Ga.) College 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-14) to start the day and fell to Meredith College by a 3-0 score (28-26, 15-19, 26-24) to conclude the tournament.

Senior outside hitter Jamie Cockerham (Galax, Va.) led all players with 14 kills as Emory & Henry picked up the win over Wesleyan. Middles Nicole Tesh (Boone, N.C.) and Kim Caudill (Galax, Va.) had nine and seven kills, respectively, while Tesh added two blocks in the match.

E&H sophomore setter Maleah Neely (Hillsville, Va.) led all players with 26 assists while freshman Madison DeBord (Williamsburg, Va.) (14 digs) and junior Kelly Mae Kerlin (Franklin, Tenn.) (11 digs) led the Wasps' defense.

As a team, the Wasps hit .262 (35-13-84) for the match compared to just .068 (18-13-74) for the Pioneers.

Wesleyan was paced by McKenzie Bragg with 10 kills while Gabriela Silber had nine assists.

Meredith 3, Emory & Henry 0 (28-26, 15-19, 26-24)
Tesh and Cockerham led the Wasps against Meredith with 12 kills each. Neely had 21 assists before leaving the match with an injury while DeBord recorded 23 digs.

Emory & Henry will open the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday when Concord University visits the John Rutledge King Center and Bob Johnson Court. First serve between the Wasps and Mountain Lions is set for 7:00 p.m.
