Emory & Henry Volleyball Splits A Pair Of Matches At Concord Monday

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (12-5) split a pair of non-conference matches Monday afternoon at a tri-match on the campus of Concord University. The Wasps swept the Golden Bears of the West Virginia University Institute of Technology (1-11), 3-0 (25-12, 15-17, 25-15), in the first match of the day before falling to the host Mountain Lions (5-10) by a 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-20) score.

In the first match of the day, E&H easily handled West Virginia Tech to open the afternoon as junior middle Nicole Tesh (Boone, N.C.) had eight kills and seven blocks to lead the way while senior outside hitter Jamie Cockerham (Galax, Va.) tallied seven kills. Senior middle Kim Caudill (Galax, Va.) registered six blocks and four kills while senior Tessa Burton (Gate City, Va.) recorded five kills, six digs and two blocks.

Sophomore setter Maleah Neely (Hillsville, Va.) dished-out a match-high 26 assists, adding five blocks while junior libero Kelly Mae Kerlin (Franklin, Tenn.) picked up 12 digs.

The Golden Bears were paced by Haley Pauley with seven kills and six digs while Noelle Day had 10 assists.

Emory & Henry ran into a tough-serving Concord team in the nightcap as the Mountain Lions served up 13 aces in the contest.  CU was led by Sarah Jones and Brytni Willis with nine kills each and Jones added nine digs. Nikki McMillan had 14 assists and nine digs. Lindsey Smith posted four service aces and seven digs as well in the match.

For the Wasps, Cockerham led the way offensively with nine kills while freshman outside hitter Hannah Stewart (Boone, N.C.) had seven kills in the contest. Tesh added five kills of her own while Neely led all players with 20 assists. Kerlin notched another eight digs in the contest.

Emory & Henry will return home on Thursday to face Roanoke College at 7:00 p.m. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest will also be the Wasps' annual Dig Pink night.
