Emory & Henry Volleyball Blanks Randolph, 3-0, Wednesday On The Road

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (15-6, 5-2 ODAC) picked up a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-19) win in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Wednesday evening over Randolph College (5-17, 0-6 ODAC).

The WildCats got out to a 4-1 lead to start the match but the Wasps reeled off six straight points for the 7-4 advantage. Up 12-11, Emory & Henry went on an 8-1 run to blow the set open. A 5-1 scoring spurt closed the frame, giving E&H a 1-0 lead in the match.

In the second stanza, the score stayed close until Emory & Henry went on a 5-1 run midway through the set to take an 18-12 lead. The Wasps had another three-point stretch late in the set for a 23-15 advantage. Randolph was able to get the margin to 23-19 before E&H pushed the final two points of the set, to win 25-19.

The third set saw five ties as neither team got ahead by more than three points until the final stretch. With the score tied at 13, Emory & Henry took the lead and never looked back, scoring five of the last six points of the match.

E&H was led offensively by junior middle Nicole Tesh (Boone, N.C.) with 13 kills. Tesh hit .478 (13-2-23) for the match and added two service aces and two blocks. Senior outside hitter Jamie Cockerham (Galax, Va.) had 10 kills and three blocks while freshman outside hitter Hannah Stewart (Boone, N.C.) added eight kills of her own.

Seniors Kim Caudill (Galax, Va.) and Tessa Burton (Gate City, Va.) registered six and five kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Maleah Neely (Hillsville, Va.)had a match-high 31 assists and added 13 digs to complete the double-double.

Randolph was paced by Sam Sublett, Jordan Templin and Celine Rhodes with seven kills each. Andrea Mewhinney and Kerry McMichael split the setting duties for the WildCats and totaled 25 assists in the match. Lexi Harrington had a team high 13 digs in the contest.

Emory & Henry will return to Bob Johnson Court for a three-match homestand next week. The Wasps will host the Hornets of Lynchburg College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in a pivotal ODAC match.
