Lynchburg Volleyball Downs Emory & Henry, 3-0, Wednesday Evening

EMORY, Va. - The Lynchburg College Volleyball Team (18-6, 6-3 ODAC) picked up a pivotal win over Emory & Henry College (15-7, 5-3 ODAC) Wednesday evening in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play as the Hornets defeated the Wasps, 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-12), at Bob Johnson Court. The loss snapped a four-match winning streak in the league for E&H.

Lynchburg hit .299 (37-11-87) for the contest and served up 10 aces en route to the victory. Aricquel Payne had nine kills and five digs while Brittany Crawford finished with eight kills, seven digs and three service aces. Rachel Turk and Brooke Moughon split the setting duties as they dished out 16 and 11 assists, respectively.

E&H was limited by errors in the match and could never find the rhythm that it has relied on for the majority of the season. The Wasps always seemed to be one or two points away from a strong rally, but weren't able to get over the hump.

Senior outside hitter Jamie Cockerham (Galax, Va.) led the way for Emory & Henry as she recorded 12 kills and a .219 (12-5-32) hitting percentage. Junior middle Nicole Tesh (Boone, N.C.) and freshman outside hitter Hannah Stewart (Boone, N.C.) had six and five kills, respectively for the Wasps. Sophomore setter Maleah Neely (Hillsville, Va.) notched a match-high 25 assists and junior libero Kelly Mae Kerlin (Franklin, Tenn.) led E&H with eight digs.

The Wasps will remain at home on Friday evening when they face the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College. First serve between the two ODAC rivals is set for 6:00 p.m.
