Emory & Henry Volleyball Coach Dan Clotfelter Presents At 2012 AVCA Convention

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Emory & Henry College Head Volleyball Coach Dan Clotfelter was one of the presenting speakers at the 2012 American Volleyball Coaches Association annual convention last month. The second-year Wasp mentor presented to over 500 coaches during the convention, which is held annually in conjunction with the NCAA Division I Volleyball Final Four.

"I love getting the chance to present at a clinic. Preparing for the clinics really requires me to think about why I do things the way I do them in practice," said Clotfelter. "I have to evaluate everything I do with an open mind and I think it helps me become a better coach."

Clotfelter's presentation topic was "Teaching Volleyball IQ Through Drills And Games." He presented a similar topic at the 2012 Virginia High School League Coaches Clinic in Hampton this past July.

"Professionally, it is a very big honor and it is an experience I will never forget. I also enjoy going to clinics and learning from other coaches who are presenting," continued Clofelter.

Also presenting this year were Mick Haley, Head Coach at the University of Southern California; Hugh McCutcheon, Head Coach at the University of Minnesota, who led the United States Women to a silver medal in London; Mary Wise, Head Coach at the University of Florida; and Karch Kiraly, three-time Olympic Gold Medalist and current United States Women's National Team head coach.

"I have already had a club coach from North Carolina come up to me and say that she saw me present at the clinic and was using some of what she learned in her gym," Clotfelter noted. "She invited me to watch her team play and asked me to contact them about Emory & Henry and the volleyball program."

In his two seasons at Emory & Henry, Clotfelter has led the Wasps to back-to-back winning seasons and a 31-24 record. E&H has seen three different players earn five separate All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference honors. Senior outside hitter Jamie Cockerham was named first-team all-league this past season and set the school record for kills in a career (905).

"Getting the Emory & Henry name out there is huge when it comes to coaches suggesting different programs and colleges. There is a chance a high school coach from Kentucky or Georgia that had never heard of E&H before that clinic could suggest one of their players look in joining the Wasps Volleyball program," added Clotfelter.
