Emory & Henry Volleyball Downs Bluefield State, 3-0, Wednesday Evening

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (12-8) picked up an easy 3-0 (25-8, 25-8, 25-13) win over Bluefield State College Wednesday evening at Ned Shott Gymnasium. The Wasps hit .373 (28-6-59) for the match.

E&H got out to a 4-0 lead in the first set and pushed its advantage to 14-4 thanks to a five-point serving run from sophomore rightside hitter Hannah Stewart (Boone, N.C.). The Wasps concluded the set on a 9-1 run for a 25-8 win.

Emory & Henry put together four serving runs of three or more points as it cruised to a 25-8 win in the second set. Freshman defensive specialist Taylor Locke (Buchanan, Va.) served out the set as the Wasps scored five straight points to make it 2-0 in the match.

In the third set, the Wasps kept the hammer down as they started off with four straight points. Freshman setter Maggie Boggess (Petersburg, W.Va.) served seven points in a row mid-way through the frame to make the score 14-4. The Lady Blues put together a 3-1 run towards the end of the match, but the Wasps closed things out, 25-13, for the win.

Emory & Henry was led by freshman outside hitter Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va.) who tallied eight kills in the match. Senior middle Nicole Tesh (Boone, N.C.) had four kills and three blocks while four other Wasps had three kills. Senior libero Kelly Mae Kerlin (Franklin, Tenn.) had three service aces while junior setter Maleah Neely (Hillsville, Va.) and freshman Autumn Roe (Bluff City, Tenn.) dished out 11 and nine assists, respectively.

Bluefield State was led by Leandrea Armbrister with eight kills while Ashley Reed notched seven assists and 10 digs. Kendria Perkins had three kills and six digs as the Lady Blues hit 15-23-70 (-.114) for the match.

E&H will return to Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. The Wasps will host the Hornets of Shenandoah University at Bob Johnson Court.
