Emory & Henry Volleyball Splits A Pair Of Matches Saturday At Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (6-4) split its two matches Saturday on the campus of Covenant College. The Wasps fell to the host Scots of Covenant, 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-23) to open the day and swept Agnes Scott College, which made the 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament, 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-12).

In the opener against Covenant, sophomore outside hitter Tristen Pennington (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the Wasps with 11 kills on .476 hitting and added a team-high 20 digs. Sophomore middle Kennady Thomason (Chattanooga, Tenn.) added eight kills while sophomore outside hitter Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va.) tallied eight kills. Senior setter Maleah Neely (Hillsville, Va.) registered a double-double with 21 assists and 14 digs.

The Scots were paced by Ginny Moore and Christian Aragez with 12 and 10 kills, respectively with Moore adding 11 digs to complete the double-double. Jessica Seehorn dished-out 21 assists while Christina Argaez had eight kills, five service aces and four digs.  Covenant hit .203 (44-19-123) for the match and had eight service aces.

Emory & Henry bounced back to defeat the Scotties of Agnes Scott after lunch. Senior middle Anika Constantinescu (Surrey, British Columbia, CANADA) and Thomason led all players with nine kills while Doss added eight kills and 11 digs. Sophomore libero Emily Hinshaw (Boone, N.C.) had four service aces and 11 digs as well for the Wasps while Neely added another 27 assists.

Agnes Scot's Lauren Aikens had eight kills while Kayleigh McCrary notched kills. Shakirah Dodson registered a double-double with 12 assists and 10 digs.

Emory & Henry hit .207 (33-15-87) as a team compared to just .056 (24-19-89) for Agnes Scott. The Wasps had 10 service aces while the Scotties managed only two.

E&H will open Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Tuesday when it travels to Roanoke, Virginia to face off against Hollins Univeristy. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
