Emory & Henry Volleyball Falls Twice In ODAC Pod Match Saturday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (8-6, 1-2 ODAC) dropped a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference matches Saturday at the John Rutledge King Center. Virginia Wesleyan College earned a 3-1 (18-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-22) win in the first match of the day while the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets defeated the Wasps, 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-22), Saturday afternoon.

Against the Marlins, the Wasps had 12 blocks as a team, but hit just .173 (45-21-139). Sophomore outside hitter Tristen Pennington (Kingsport, Tenn.) had a team-high 12 kills and added 17 digs to complete the double-double. Sophomore right side hitter Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va.) tallied 11 kills and 14 digs for a double-double of her own. Senior setter Maleah Neely (Hillsville, Va.) dished out 36 assists and had 14 digs while sophomore middle Kennady Thomason (Chattanooga, Tenn.) posted seven kills and six blocks. Senior middle Anika Constantinescu (Surrey, British Columbia, CANADA) added eight kills and six blocks while sophomore libero Emily Hinshaw (Boone, N.C.) notched 10 digs.

Virginia Wesleyan was paced by Tiffany Barrett's 14 kills and 12 digs while Alex Lambert had 10 kills. Kirsten Sessoms (19 assists) and Emilee Pierson (18 assists) split the setting duties for the Marlins while Marin Crowder led all players with 18 digs. Ashley Bologna added eight kills and three blocks.

In the nightcap against Randolph-Macon, Doss had nine kills, eight digs and two blocks while Thomason notched eight kills and three blocks. Pennington posted seven kills and 11 digs while Constantinescu tallied six kills and four blocks. Neely chipped in 24 assists and 10 digs for her second double-double of the day.

R-MC's Courtney Lowers posted 12 kills and 18 digs, both match highs to lead the Yellow Jackets while Erin Quinn dished-out 22 assists and added eight digs and two service aces. Katie Rossburg had eight kills while Samantha Sallade tallied 14 digs.

Emory & Henry will next take the court on Saturday, September 27 when it travels to Lexington, Virginia for a tri-match on the Washington and Lee University campus. The Wasps will take on the Generals at 1:00 p.m., in an ODAC match and conclude play at 3:00 against the University of Mary Washington.
