Emory & Henry Volleyball Drops A Pair In Saturday Tri-Match At Washington and Lee

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (8-8, 1-3 ODAC) competed in a tri-match Saturday on the campus of Washington and Lee University. The Wasps played the Generals in and Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest to start the day and concluded action with a non-league match against the University of Mary Washington.

Washington and Lee (15-1, 4-0 ODAC) claimed the win over E&H, 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-12). Mackenzie Shand led all players with 12 kills while Anna Lausberg added nine kills and nine digs in the match. Alex Kinzer dished out 32 assists, had nine digs and three kills from her setter position. W&L attacked at a .260 (41-16-96) mark as a team.

Sophomore right side Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va.) had 11 kills to pace the Wasps while sophomore middle Kennady Thomason (Chattanooga, Tenn.) finished the match with eight kills on a .615 hitting percentage. Senior setter Maleah Neely (Hillsville, Va.) posted a double-double on 21 assists and 10 digs while sophomore outside hitter Tristen Pennington (Kingsport, Tenn.) added a match-high 13 digs. As a team, the E&H struggled on the attack, hitting just 27-18-88 (.102) for the match.

Mary Washington (12-4) earned a 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 26-24, 25-13) victory over Emory & Henry in the second match of the day. The Eagles placed two players in double figures in kills as Victoria Howell notched a match-high 18 kills and seven service aces. Rachel Hendricks added 14 kills while Megan Payne registered 25 assists and Jenna Yost posted 11 digs. UMW had a total of 18 service aces in the match while hitting .291 (50-16-117).

Pennington paced the Wasps' offense with 11 kills and added 11 digs completing the double-double  to go along with four service aces. Doss and Thomason tallied eight and seven kills, respectively for E&H while Neely had 25 assists and four aces. Sophomore libero Emily Hinshaw (Boone, N.C.) notched nine digs and added two service aces as well.

Emory & Henry will return to action on Tuesday evening when it hosts West Virginia Tech at 7:00 p.m., at the John Rutledge King Center.
