Emory & Henry Volleyball Selected Fifth In 2016 ODAC Preseason Poll

FOREST, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team under the direction of Head Coach Devyn Bayes, now in her third season, finds itself picked to finish fifth in the regular season, ODAC officials announced Friday. The poll is voted on by the 12 head coaches in the league.

Last year, Emory & Henry posted a 13-17 record with a 5-6 mark in league play to finish tied for sixth during the regular season. Three players received All-ODAC designation with Kennady Thomason (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va.) earning second-team honors. Tristen Pennington (Kingsport, Tenn.) picked up her third all-league accolade one the All-ODAC Third Team.

"We know that the middle of the pack in the ODAC is a tough place to break out of because of the closely matched completion, but we look forward to working on besting our rank this season. Our leadership is strong, and our team is ready for the challenge this season," said Bayes.

Washington and Lee University is atop the poll with six first-place votes while Randolph-Macon College, which has won four of the last seven championships including two straight, is second with three first-place votes. Virginia Wesleyan College is one point behind in third with the final three top nods. Roanoke College is tabbed as fourth with E&H rounding out the top five.

Emory & Henry opens the 2016 season on the road as it travels to face Milligan College on Thursday, September 1 at 7:00 p.m. The Wasps will visit the campus of Averett University for the sixth time in seven years for four matches at the 22nd Annual Cougar Classic on Saturday, September 3 and Sunday, September 4.
