Emory & Henry Volleyball Sweeps Elizabeth City State, 3-0, At Greensboro Invitational Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (2-4, 0-0 ODAC) took advantage of 17 service aces as it dispatched Elizabeth City State University (0-7 0-0 CIAA) by a 3-0 (25-16, 28-26, 25-17) score Saturday afternoon. The match was the first for the Wasps in the Greensboro College Invitational.

How It Happened
- Down 5-3 early in the first, the Wasps scored five in a row and later seven out of eight for a 17-8 advantage. The two squads traded points late, but E&H cruised to the 25-16 win.
- The second frame was the closest of the day but Emory & Henry was led by junior right-side hitter Tori Holmberg's (Wake Forest, N.C.) eight kills and three service aces. ECSU forced five ties late in the set, but three straight kills by the Wasps gave them the 2-0 lead in the match.
- A pair of five-point scoring runs in the third stanza including three straight aces by sophomore libero Lauren Coolidge (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and six kills by senior outside hitter Ali Singleton (Mount Jackson, Va.) saw Emory & Henry at its best of the match as it easily sealed the match by a 25-17 score.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Holmberg led all players with 14 kills and added five aces which was also a team high.
- Singleton contributed 10 kills, seven digs, two aces and two blocks while junior middle Rebecca Morehouse (Kingsport, Tenn.) had nine kills and two blocks.
- Junior setter Sam McCauley (Glade Spring, Va.) had 32 assists, three aces and three digs while Coolidge finished with four aces and seven digs.

Elizabeth City State Individual Leaders
- Zalvonia Swain and Breyona Debrough had six kills each while Nikuale Singleton chipped in five kills.
- Taylor Jones posted a team-high nine assists and Jahera Dangerfield added six digs.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry attacked at a .267 percentage (41-18-86) for the match, its best performance of the year while ECSU hit .217 (27-12-69).
- The Wasps led 17-5 on service aces while the Vikings kept the slimmest of margins on blocks, 4-3.

- Emory & Henry will remain in Greensboro on Sunday for another pair of games in the Greensboro College Invitational.
- The Wasps will face the Hawks of Huntingdon College at noon and will take on the host Greensboro Pride at 4:00 p.m.
