Emory & Henry Volleyball Tops Hollins, 3-1, Wednesday Evening In ODAC Action

ROANOKE, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team (4-9, 2-2 ODAC) evened its Old Dominion Athletic Conference record Wednesday evening with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-20) win over Hollins University (5-8, 0-4 ODAC).

How It Happened
- E&H got out to a 7-1 lead in the first set but HU tied things up 12-all. The two teams battled through four ties before Hollins broke a 23-23 tie with the final two points to take the set.
- The Wasps responded with an overpowering offense to tie the match following the second frame. Senior outside hitter Ali Singleton (Mount Jackson, Va.) and junior right-side hitter Tori Holmberg (Wake Forest, N.C.) each had five kills to lead the way.
- Emory & Henry jumped out to a 6-2 advantage in the third and never looked back, closing the frame with nine of the final 11 points to win, 25-14.
- The two teams went on runs early in the fourth set. The Wasps then began to slowly build a lead, holding on for the 25-20 win and the match.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Holmberg and Singleton led all players with 15 kills apiece while Singleton posted 11 digs for the double-double.
- Junior middle Rebecca Morehouse (Kingsport, Tenn.) had nine kills and two blocks while junior middle Megan Stitzer (Chesterfield, Va.) had three kills and five blocks.
- Junior setter Sam McCauley (Glade Spring, Va.) notched 44 assists and 10 digs and sophomore libero Lauren Coolidge (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) had 21 digs and three aces.

Hollins Individual Leaders
- Courtney Chappell had 11 kills to lead Hollins while Bre Faircloth tacked on nine kills and a team-high 15 digs.
- Sarah Freeman notched a double-double for the green-and-gold with 25 assists and 11 digs.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will remain on the road Friday when it steps out of ODAC play to face Southern Virginia University.
- First serve between the Wasps and Knights is set for 7:00 p.m.
