West Virginia Tech Volleyball Tops Emory & Henry, 3-0, On Dig Pink Night Tuesday

EMORY, Va. – The West Virginia University Institute of Technology Volleyball Team (21-9, 4-6 RSC) earned a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-19) win over Emory & Henry College (5-19, 2-6 ODAC) Tuesday evening. The match served as the Wasps' annual Dig Pink night in support of the Side-Out Foundation for breast cancer research.

How It Happened
- E&H got out to a 7-4 lead in the opening set but five straight points by WVU Tech made the score 9-7. The Wasps pushed back to tie things up at 10, but the Golden Bears used a three- and four-point scoring run to pull away, winning by a 25-20 score.
- The second set went back and forth with 12 ties and six lead changes. With the score 16-16, West Virginia Tech took control and scored seven on the next eight points to open up a 23-17 lead, and held on for the 25-19 win.
- WVU Tech opened up a 4-1 lead early but E&H chipped away at the lead to knot the score, 12-all. The Wasps would lead by a 16-14 margin before the Golden Bears put together an 8-1 run to take control, 22-17, as they clinched the match with a 25-19 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior right-side hitter Tori Holmberg (Wake Forest, N.C.) had 10 kills, hitting .280 (10-3-25) and added seven digs while junior middle Rebecca Morehouse (Kingsport, Tenn.) chipped in seven kills and two blocks on her birthday.
- Senior outside hitter Ali Singleton (Mount Jackson, Va.) notched five kills and seven digs while junior setter Sam McCauley (Glade Spring, Va.) contributed 24 assists, five digs, four kills, two aces and two blocks.
- Junior defensive specialist Amethyst Crawford (Afton, Tenn.) and sophomore libero Lauren Coolidge (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) put up 12 digs each while Coolidge added four assists.
- Junior middle Megan Stitzer (Chesterfield, Va.) had two kills, four aces and a block while sophomore outside hitter Sam Maddox (Monroe, Va.) recorded three kills.

West Virginia Tech Individual Leaders
- Lauren McCall led all players with 12 kills and added nine digs for the Golden Bears while Kayla Hill and Katelyn Byrd had eight kills apiece.
- Konstantina Pateli notched 34 assists, 12 digs five kills and two aces while Alice Amitrano and Ana Monteiro contributed 16 and 13 digs, respectively.

- Emory & Henry will step back into Old Dominion Athletic Conference play this weekend when it visits Virginia Wesleyan College.
